Nan Chiau High School is a bilingual secondary school located in Anchorvale, Sengkang New Town, Singapore. Founded in 1941 as Nan Chiau Teachers’Training School by Chinese entrepreneur Tan Kah Kee, the school became a girls’ secondary school in 1947 with the efforts of the Singapore Hokkien Huay Kuan (SHHK). It was finally renamed and restructured as the co-educational Nan Chiau High School in 1984.

Nan Chiau High School maintains a strong partnership with the Singapore Hokkien Huay Kuan, a foundation dedicated to preserving the language of Chinese Singaporeans, particularly through education. Nan Chiau received designation as a Special Assistance Plan (SAP) school in January 2015.Nan Chiau is the 11th SAP school in the country.Under the SAP, the school promotes fluency in both Mandarin Chinese and English as well as the cultivation of traditional Asian culture and values. Students regularly participate in national Chinese-language and bilingual competitions in oration, debate, and writing, and the school anthem is in Mandarin Chinese.

As of 2015, Nan Chiau ranks No. 32 out of 170 secondary schools in Singapore based solely upon accepted Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE) scores. The school regularly participates in sports competitions with Xinmin Secondary School and Yishun Town Secondary School.In 2015, Nan Chiau hosted the Nan Chiau High School Basketball Invitational, which involved three other secondary schools in Seng Kang, to hone skills and forge relationships among student athletes. The girls’ basketball team took second place in Divisions B and C in the North Zone Basketball Competition.Students have also received honours in the National Cadet Corps, Red Cross, and in areas such as Chinese dance and Chinese orchestra.
Nan Chiau celebrated the 69th anniversary of its founding in 2016. The school values are “sincerity” and “perseverance,” and the school colours are white, navy, red, and purple. The school currently enrolls approximately 1500 students.Notable alumni include Goh Lay Kuan, Indonesian-Singaporean dancer/choreographer and Cultural Medallion winner.
